Good Morning Frugalistas!
This is not the original blog post that I was going to share with you. I have some hot insider news about Costco. This tip comes an inside source at the Lake in the Hills Store. I had bought a gorgeous sparkly jeweled lighted garland for my mantel at Christmas at Costco. It was truly a deal $36.99 it was so sparkly and when I looked at it I went to my special place inside my head where everything is SPARKLY. Well it stopped working and my heart cried “NO! Please…not my special sparkly mantel piece. I had kept the box and it said guaranteed for two years. With a sad heart I packed it up in the box only being able to share 4 months with my sparkle treasure. I thought I would return it to Costco. They were super nice and when I returned it, the Customer service person could see the disappointment on my face about my sparkle he said “it’s a shame you can't get another one”. As we talked about all things Sparkle and Christmas he told me that the day before Christmas that same sparkly, jeweled lighted mantel piece went down in price to $6.99! I said “How, What, Why… give me the 411 on this!”
Do you want an insider’s tip to when to do the best shopping at Christmas at Costco? YES YES YES ...he said each GM at Costco has some decision making power to lower prices especially when it comes to Holiday time products. He said the GM at this store doesn't want to hold onto the merchandise so the prices are dramatically cut...$50.00 Food/spa baskets are $2.97, $1.97. Toys are lashed down by 90 %. He said it starts 3 days before Christmas and goes all the way up to Christmas Eve night. I asked “Do you have any merchandise for after Christmas sales?” he said “NO, everything goes in those final days including video games marked down to $14.97 from $60.00. He even told me that being a Costco team member he went in extra early before his shift on those days to get the deals. Wow Frugalistas! Guess where I am going…Costco field trip on Dec. 23rd and 24th.
